Representative Jim Costa, serving California's 21st district in the United States Congress, has shared his views on various issues affecting the nation and his district through a series of tweets. Costa, who has represented the district since 2005 and has a history in state politics, addressed concerns relating to tariffs, trade negotiations, and housing.

On April 2, 2025, Costa criticized President Trump's tariffs on Mexico and Canada, highlighting their potential impact on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). Costa stated, "President Trump's tariffs on Mexico and Canada threaten the USMCA, which supports 17 million American jobs. That's why I've led House Democrats in introducing a resolution to emphasize the importance of this agreement and our economic partnerships." He emphasized the importance of maintaining strong economic partnerships through the agreement.

Later that same day, on April 2, Costa drew attention to the impact of tariffs on American consumers and producers, posting that "Tariffs are a tax on American consumers and producers. A trade war drives up costs on everyday essentials, from groceries and cars to building materials. Hardworking families in the Valley and across the country will feel the impact in their daily lives." Costa pointed out the potential for increased costs on essential goods as a result of trade disputes.

On April 3, Costa shifted his focus to housing issues in the San Joaquin Valley. He stated his commitment to safe and affordable housing for families in the region and recounted a meeting with Self-Help Enterprises. In his words, "Every family in the San Joaquin Valley deserves a safe, affordable place to call home. I met with Self-Help Enterprises to discuss critical funding needs, budget challenges, & 2026 priorities for USDA Rural Development to support healthy, sustainable housing in our communities." Costa emphasized the need for funding and development priorities to ensure sustainable housing solutions.
