Retired Deputy Sergeant Scott Moore, a former member of the Fresno County Sheriff's Department, passed away on February 3, 2025, at the age of 60 following an unexpected medical emergency. Moore is remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, colleague, and friend.
Born on March 19, 1964, in Walnut Creek, California to James and Gayle Moore, Scott grew up in Pleasanton and graduated from Foothill High School in 1982. During his school years, he was active in track and field and played football.
In 1983, Moore joined the Air Force and completed basic training at Lackland AFB. His military service included stations at Mather AFB, Osan AFB in Seoul South Korea, and Malmstrom AFB. After leaving the Air Force in 1991, he attended the police academy and began his law enforcement career with Selma Police Department in May 1992. He transitioned to the Fresno County Sheriff's Department in August 1999. Over his career with FSO, he served in various units including patrol, search and rescue, MAGEC (Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium), vice/intel, and internal affairs. Moore retired as a Sergeant in June 2018 but continued to work as an instructor at the local Police Academy until his passing.
Moore's childhood was filled with memories of attending Oakland A’s baseball games and Oakland Raiders football games. He had three daughters: Allison born in 1989; Kristi born in 1992; and Valerie born in 1996. As a proud father of girls ("girl dad"), he cherished watching them participate in dance competitions, sports events, and Girl Scout activities.
Scott's hobbies included golfing with his father James K Moore (who preceded him in death), playing poker games with friends, coin collecting, traveling extensively with family members or close friends alike - all while ensuring that time spent walking Ralphie every day remained constant! His love for ice cream was only matched by how much joy making chocolate pie brought into this world through family recipes shared across generations too!
Surviving Scott are his children Allison Freer (and husband Brian Freer), Kristi Horner (and husband Michael Horner), Valerie Moore; grandchildren Jaxon Freer & Harper Freer; mother Gayle Moore; sister Karin Kirkwood (and brother-in-law Brian Kirkwood); along many other extended family members who will miss him dearly.
