Deputies have arrested Adam Canales, 18, from Fresno. He is charged with evading police and vehicular manslaughter following a crash that resulted in the deaths of two sisters, Mang Yang, 25, and Eliza Yang, 18. Additionally, Canales faces an infraction for driving with alcohol in his system while being underage.

The incident occurred at 9:47 pm on Wednesday when Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies assigned to the Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium (MAGEC) were patrolling southeast Fresno. They observed a disturbance involving possible gang members near Verrue Avenue and Eighth Street. As deputies approached, one individual entered a white Chevy Tahoe and fled the scene, running a stop sign. The driver was identified as Adam Canales.

A deputy activated his lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop; however, Canales refused to comply. He accelerated along Eighth Street and crossed Nevada Avenue before crashing through a fence into a house after failing to stop at another sign at Cedar Avenue. Following the crash, Canales exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.

Deputies established a perimeter around the neighborhood while firefighters and EMS personnel responded to the crash site. Inside the home affected by the wrecked vehicle, they discovered two women who had died due to injuries sustained in the accident.

At approximately 10:00 pm, utilizing assistance from Fresno Police's helicopter AIR 1, deputies located Canales at a residence on E. Ball Ave., where he surrendered without resistance. After undergoing evaluation at a hospital, he was booked into jail. Law enforcement officials note that Canales is familiar to them as he is known for gang affiliations and is currently on probation for firearm possession.

The Fresno Police Department is managing this part of the investigation since it took place within city limits.

Authorities urge anyone with additional information about this case to contact the Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers anonymously for potential cash rewards by referencing case #24-11907.
