Deputies in Fresno County have arrested 24-year-old Lizeth Alaniz Perez of Selma after she was caught carrying a loaded handgun into the Fresno County Superior Courthouse. The incident took place on Tuesday when Perez entered the courthouse's main lobby with her infant and diaper bag. As her bag passed through the security screening station, a sheriff’s community service officer detected the gun, leading to Perez's arrest and booking into the Fresno County Jail on several felony gun-related charges. Her bail has been set at $266,000.
Following the arrest, deputies confiscated the handgun and handed Perez's two and a half-month-old child over to workers with Fresno County Child Protective Services. The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that all weapons, including firearms, knives, tear gas, stun guns, scissors, and more, are prohibited inside courthouses. Additionally, food and beverages are also not allowed to be brought in.
In light of this incident, the Sheriff’s Office issued a reminder to the public about the strict regulations regarding prohibited items within courthouse premises. It serves as a cautionary tale highlighting the importance of adhering to courthouse security protocols to ensure the safety of all visitors and personnel.
