Fresno Unified School District recently issued the following announcement.
Okay - this partnership is what it's all about! Thank you to Hoover High's Construction Program and Habitat for Humanity for bringing this joy to our community!
Hoover High School's Construction Program partnered with Habitat for Humanity Greater Fresno Area to share books in multiple languages to children who received Habitat homes. Sarah Pedelty, Chair for our Industrial Manufacturing and Technology Sub-Committee and Engagement Manager for Habitat for Humanity received copies of the donated books written by the stars of HGTV's TV show, Property Brothers.
Some of the stories involved Do-It-Yourself projects that families could do together. However, Habitat realized many of the recipients who received homes from Habitat would have difficulty understanding the book and project ideas if they did not speak English. That is when Hoover's Construction Program lead and teacher Dale Costa partnered with Habitat and decided to translate the books in Spanish and Hmong by creating voiceover presentations of each page of the book. The construction students then shared those voiceover stories to the young students who received a home from Habitat for Humanity Great Fresno Area and are working to create videos using sign language as well.
The stories will also be shared on the Habitat website for additional families to enjoy. Another great experience for students made possible by amazing partnerships. Way to show up for our #FUSDFamily!
