Property crimes detectives have arrested Jose Munoz Trujillo, 37, from Fresno, and Joshua Garcia, 33, from Porterville. Both individuals are now in custody at the Fresno County Jail. Garcia is facing charges of robbery, auto theft, and carjacking. Munoz Trujillo faces a charge of carjacking alongside Garcia but also has additional charges related to an Adams Market robbery on October 8th. These include robbery, possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession of stolen property.
Garcia's bail is set at $100,000; however, he is currently not eligible for bail due to the carjacking charge. Munoz Trujillo's total bail amount stands at $400,000.
The incident began on October 3rd when Garcia and Munoz Trujillo allegedly carjacked an Amazon delivery worker near N. Dower and W. Dakota Avenues in Fresno. The suspects reportedly used a gun to threaten the employee before taking the Amazon van filled with packages and fleeing in it along with a black Toyota Corolla they arrived in.
Deputies later identified the Toyota Corolla near N. Pleasant and W. Home Avenues with Amazon packages visible inside the vehicle. Joshua Garcia was found nearby and subsequently arrested after deputies located a loaded pistol during their search of the car.
Efforts continued to locate the stolen Amazon van on October 3rd until it was found abandoned close to its original location.
Detectives gathered information suggesting that Jose Munoz Trujillo was involved in this crime as well. On October 18th, multiple units from the Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at 1363 N. Hughes Ave., where firearms and evidence linked to both incidents were discovered.
During this operation, Johnny Munoz—Jose's brother—attempted to flee but was apprehended by Sheriff’s K-9 Kane after punching the dog during his arrest attempt. Johnny Munoz had an outstanding warrant for an unrelated home invasion robbery issued by Fresno Police and was booked into jail with bail set at $775,000.
Jose Munoz Trujillo was eventually located in Exeter where he was taken into custody by detectives.
