On February 28, 2024, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office celebrated the official opening of its new Area Two Substation with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The substation, located on a 6 ½ acre parcel of land along N. Armstrong Ave. in southeast Fresno, boasts impressive features, as highlighted by the Sheriff's Office spokesperson who stated, "It features 22,700 square feet of office space and a 35,500 square foot vehicle storage building."
Although the facility began operations in October 2023, the formal ceremony was postponed to allow for final construction touch-ups. As of now, the substation serves as the central hub for all patrol operations in the metropolitan area, as mentioned by a representative of the Sheriff's Office who emphasized, "The building currently serves as the headquarters for all patrol operations in the metropolitan area."
The substation's strategic location along N. Armstrong Ave., between Belmont and E. Harvey Avenues, offers convenient access to Highway 180, enabling personnel to respond swiftly to calls for service. Additionally, the facility provides space for patrol briefings, community meetings, and serves as a storage location for specialized unit vehicles and equipment deployed during emergencies.
The successful completion of the $17 million dollar project was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Sheriff’s Office and the Board of Supervisors, with a representative stating, "The $17 million dollar project is fully paid off thanks to the collaboration of the Sheriff’s Office and the Board of Supervisors."
Recruitment opportunities are available at the newly inaugurated Area Two Substation, marking a significant milestone for the Fresno County Sheriff's Office as it continues to enhance its operational capacity and community engagement initiatives.
