Fresno State University Athletics issued the following announcement on Dec 8.
Fresno State redshirt freshman defensive back Bralyn Lux was named a Burlsworth Trophy nominee on Tuesday, the Brandon Burlsworth Foundation announced. He is one of 67 Division I FBS football players recognized for the annual award that is given to college football's most outstanding player who began his career as a walk-on.
When Lux came to Fresno State in 2019, he did so as a walk-on. A year later, the redshirt freshman earned a spot in the Bulldogs' starting lineup, a spot vacated by the graduation of three-year starter Jaron Bryant. The San Jose, Calif. native has started all five games of the season.
In 2020, Lux has totaled four pass breakups, leads the team in tackles (28) and ranks 48th nationally in solo tackles per game (5.0). Lux snagged his first career interception last time out at Nevada and returned it 24 yards.
The Burlsworth Trophy will host an awards ceremony virtually on January 4, 2021 to honor the three finalists and to announce the 2020 winner.
