California State Assembly Democrats 2019 - 2020 recently issued the following announcement.

Assemblymember Dr. Joaquin Arambula (D-Fresno) on January 10 responded to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s proposed California Budget for 2020-21:

“I’m heartened by the goals set in Gov. Newsom’s initial proposed budget, especially in the areas of health care, mental health services, and economic growth. As a budget subcommittee chair, I focus on improving our health care system and, as the author of Health4All, I am extremely pleased that the Governor has included expansion of Medi-Cal to undocumented seniors.  This comes after last year’s legislation to include coverage for young adults up to the age of 26, regardless of immigration status. I look forward to working with the Governor on building upon the progress we have already made on lowering health care costs, expanding coverage, improving an inadequate mental health system, and addressing the workforce shortage in the medical field.

“I also am pleased that the Governor’s budget includes resources directed to the Central Valley and designates investments to the Fresno DRIVE Initiative. These funds will be a down payment on bolstering opportunities in our region that continues to face economic obstacles.

“But my colleagues and I also know that California faces big challenges that include addressing the homeless crisis, creating more affordable housing, continuing to fix the mental health system, and dealing with the tribulation of wildfires. Gov. Newsom’s budget is a good starting point for the important discussions we’ll have on how we address California’s most pressing issues.”
