Later that day, Costa announced his leadership role among House Democrats concerning proposed tariffs by tweeting: "NEWS: I led 44 House Democrats in a letter to @POTUS calling on him to reconsider the proposed 25% tariffs on imported building materials from Canada and Mexico. These tariffs could exacerbate the nation’s housing affordability crisis, drive up consumer costs, and slow down…" This statement reflects his stance against policies that may impact housing affordability and consumer expenses.

In a subsequent tweet posted at nearly the same time, Rep. Costa further elaborated on his position regarding tariffs: "Tariffs are a tax on consumers and producers.
