Rep. Jim Costa, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 21st district, posted several messages on his Twitter account honoring the sacrifices of military personnel during Memorial Day commemorations.
On May 25, 2026, Costa wrote: “Today, we honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Their courage and selflessness secured the freedoms we cherish every day.

The following morning, May 26, he shared his participation at a local event: “This morning, I had the honor of attending the Reedley Memorial Day Commemoration to pay tribute to the brave men and women of our United States military who made the ultimate sacrifice defending our freedoms and liberties.

Later that day, Costa reiterated his message: “Memorial Day is a solemn reminder that the freedoms and liberties we enjoy were secured through the sacrifice of those who gave their last full measure of devotion in service to our nation.

Costa has represented California’s 21st District in Congress since 2005 after succeeding Cal Dooley. Before joining Congress, he served in both chambers of California’s state legislature between 1978 and 2002. Born in Fresno in 1952 and currently residing there at age 71, Costa earned his bachelor’s degree from California State University, Fresno in 1974.
