Jim Costa, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 21st district, has taken to social media to express his concerns over recent legislative actions and proposed budget cuts by House Republicans. His statements, shared on May 21, 2025, highlight potential impacts on healthcare and services for vulnerable populations.

In a post from May 21, 2025 at 20:07 UTC, Costa criticized the House Republican leadership for holding a hearing at an unusual hour to advance a budget bill. He stated that this bill could potentially “take healthcare away from 14 million people,” emphasizing the risk it poses to the nation’s long-term health. “MUST WATCH Last night, House Republican leadership held a hearing at 1:00 AM to jam through their partisan budget bill that would take healthcare away from 14 million people. Make no mistake: the long-term health of our nation is at risk.”

Later that day, at 21:00 UTC, Costa shared details of his meeting with Adventist Health regarding changes to provider fees which could result in significant financial cuts. He noted that these cuts could amount to “$330 million just to their California operations,” warning that such reductions would not only affect Medicaid recipients but also strain hospitals and clinics across the board. “I met with Adventist Health, and the stakes are clear: changes to the provider fee mean a $330 million cut just to their California operations. These Medicaid cuts don’t just impact Medicaid recipients, they strain hospitals, clinics, and reduce care for everyone.”

In another post made on May 21 at 23:00 UTC, Costa addressed claims by House Republicans about prioritizing children while proposing Medicaid cuts that could limit services for disabled children. He argued that their actions seem more focused on “protecting the wealthy” rather than ensuring access for students and children with disabilities. “House Republicans claim that our children come first, yet proposed cuts to Medicaid would force states to reduce services for disabled children. It’s clear their top priority is protecting the wealthy – not ensuring that students and children with disabilities have access”

Jim Costa has been serving in Congress since replacing Cal Dooley in 2005 after previously serving in both chambers of California’s state legislature.
