Rep. Jim Costa, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 21st district, recently shared his positions and initiatives through a series of tweets. Costa has been active in politics since 1978 and is known for his commitment to various social and economic issues affecting his constituents.
On July 10, 2025, Rep. Jim Costa expressed his opposition to cuts in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). He stated, “I voted against the reckless SNAP cuts because I know what’s at stake. Food banks like @cencalfoodbank already serve 300,000+ people a month. Now they’re expected to do more with less? That means longer lines, empty shelves, and more hungry families in the Valley.” This highlights his concern over the potential impact on food security in his district.
Later that day, Costa announced funding aimed at enhancing water management infrastructure in Fresno. On July 10, he tweeted: “NEWS: $3 million is coming to expand recharge basins in Fresno. This means more stormwater stored, stronger groundwater levels, and better drought protection for Valley farms.” This initiative aims to improve water storage capabilities and bolster drought resilience for agricultural operations.
In another post on July 10, Costa underscored the importance of transparency within government proceedings by supporting increased public access to congressional activities. He noted: “Public trust in government starts with public access. I support expanding @CSPAN livestream because Congress belongs to the people. Every American deserves to see it in action.” His advocacy for expanded CSPAN coverage aligns with efforts to enhance governmental accountability.
Jim Costa’s tenure includes representation since replacing Cal Dooley in 2005 and prior service in both the California State Assembly and Senate. Born and residing in Fresno, he holds a BA from California State University, Fresno.
