Rep. Jim Costa, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 21st district since 2005, recently shared his thoughts on various issues through a series of tweets. Costa, who has been an influential political figure since his tenure in the California State Assembly and Senate, expressed views on religious freedom, staffing concerns at National Weather Service offices, and celebrated National Dairy Month.
On June 6, 2025, Rep. Costa tweeted about the importance of religious freedom in America. He stated: “This isn’t a theocracy. This is America. Religious freedom means we honor every faith — not just one.”
The following day, June 7, 2025, he highlighted a staffing issue within the National Weather Service (NWS) offices that he considers to be a national crisis. He mentioned his collaborative efforts with Rep. Doris Matsui to address this concern for California’s Hanford and Sacramento offices: “This story shows a national crisis: NWS offices are dangerously understaffed. @DorisMatsui and I urged action for CA’s Hanford & Sacramento offices. We rely on this data for weather apps, TV, radio & emergency alerts. Lives depend on it.”
Later that day, Costa acknowledged National Dairy Month by celebrating Tulare County’s status as the top dairy-producing county in the nation: “Happy National Dairy Month! With Tulare being the top dairy-producing county in the nation, we’re proud to celebrate our farmers and the industry that keeps milk flowing from farm to fridge.”
Jim Costa has represented California’s 21st District since succeeding Cal Dooley in 2005 and has a long history of public service dating back to his time in state government roles.
