Rep. Jim Costa, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 21st district since 2005, used his Twitter account on May 17 and 18, 2026, to address mental health awareness, constituent services, and federal spending under former President Donald Trump.
On May 17, Costa posted about Mental Health Awareness Month: “This #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth, we recognize the importance of mental health, reducing stigma, and raising awareness about mental health conditions. As we move forward, I remain committed to advocating for mental health awareness and working to expand access to the resources https://t.co/2SRZiWYGkR”.
Later that day, he highlighted the services his office provides for constituents needing assistance with federal agencies: “Need help with a federal agency? My office is here to serve you. Whether it’s Social Security, veterans’ benefits, passports, immigration, or the IRS, my team is ready to help cut through the red tape. Contact my office for casework assistance and support with federal services.”
On May 18, Costa criticized former President Donald Trump regarding the allocation of taxpayer funds: “While Americans are struggling to afford groceries, gas, health care, and housing, Donald Trump is directing $1.8 billion in taxpayer dollars to benefit political allies. Costa has served in Congress since replacing Cal Dooley in 2005 and previously held seats in both the California State Assembly (1978-1994) and California Senate (1994-2002). He was born in Fresno in 1952 and graduated from California State University, Fresno in 1974 with a BA.
