Rep. Jim Costa, who represents California’s 21st district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of updates on his social media accounts between April 9 and April 10, 2026. The posts ranged from an invitation to local students for an art competition to expressions of condolence following a tragedy and remarks on the Artemis II space mission.
On April 9, Costa encouraged student participation in a national art contest, writing: “CALLING ALL CA-21 STUDENTS: Show off your creativity in the 2026 Congressional Art Competition! Don’t miss this opportunity to represent CA-21 through your art. To learn more on how to participate, click the link below https://t.co/aSIuO4Bv5B https://t.co/sWkblnlkUO”.
Later that day, he addressed a recent tragedy involving law enforcement in Porterville: “My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the Tulare County Sheriff’s Deputy who tragically lost his life in today’s senseless act of violence in Porterville. As we move forward through this difficult time, we must continue to stand in solidarity with his loved ones, fellow”.
On April 10, Costa commented on a major space exploration milestone: “The Artemis II mission represents the very best of American values—hard work, determination, and a relentless drive to push the boundaries of what’s possible. We look forward to the safe return of the crew who carry our nation’s spirit of exploration forward! https://t.co/EvFysjJAtf”.
Costa has represented California’s 21st District since 2005 after succeeding Cal Dooley. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of both the California State Assembly and Senate from 1978 through 2002. Born and residing in Fresno, Costa graduated from California State University, Fresno with a bachelor’s degree in 1974.
