Rep. Jim Costa, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 21st district since 2005, addressed several legislative priorities and community issues in a series of recent posts on his social media account.

On May 20, 2026, Costa emphasized Congressional authority over military action and the need for executive transparency regarding Iran policy. He stated, “This morning, I set the record straight on a few things:

The Constitution is clear – Congress has the power to declare war.

When it comes to Iran, the President owes the American people and Congress a clear explanation of the exit strategy and priority of this”.

The following day, Costa reported on meetings with gig economy workers from his district. On May 21, 2026, he wrote: “This week I met with Dashers from across California’s 21st Congressional District to discuss their experiences working in the gig economy, the importance of portable benefits, and expanding food access throughout the Central Valley.

We talked about the challenges workers face”.

Later that same day, Costa referenced his support for veterans through recent legislative action. In his post dated May 21, 2026, he said: “Last week, I was proud to vote for the MilCon-VA measure, which includes critical investments to support our veterans, service members, and military families.

As we move forward, I remain committed to advocating for our local heroes. A grateful nation can never say thank you”.

Costa has represented California’s 21st District in Congress since succeeding Cal Dooley in 2005. Before serving in Congress he held positions in both chambers of California’s legislature—first as an Assembly member from 1978 to 1994 and then as a State Senator from 1994 to 2002. Born in Fresno in 1952 and currently residing there at age 71, Costa graduated from California State University, Fresno with a bachelor’s degree in 1974.
