Rep. Jim Costa, who represents California’s 21st district in the U.S. Congress, recently used his social media platform to address several issues affecting his constituents, including agricultural aid, education funding, and food supply security.
On July 16, 2025, Costa posted about ongoing challenges faced by farmers in the wake of natural disasters: “Too many farmers are left in limbo after wildfires, drought, or floods. That’s why I am backing @RepThompson’s Agricultural Emergency Relief Act to lock in permanent, flexible aid for farmers when they need it most.”
Later that day, he drew attention to concerns over federal education funding: “Nearly $7 billion in federal funds are being illegally withheld from K-12 schools and adult education, directly impacting students and schools in the Valley. I’m fighting to get these funds released – our students’ success depends on it.”
On July 17, Costa highlighted a discussion with Dr. Jones regarding avian flu risks: “I had the privilege of welcoming Veterinarian Dr. Jones in a discussion of the impact of the Avian Flu and the importance of a vaccine. As the ranking member on the Agriculture Subcommittee on Livestock, I know that an unsafe food-supply chain is a national security risk.”
Costa has served as California’s representative since 2005 after succeeding Cal Dooley. He previously held positions in both the California State Assembly and Senate from 1978 through 2002. Born and residing in Fresno, Costa graduated from California State University, Fresno with a BA in 1974.
