Members of the Fresno County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit have identified Rudy Veloz, 34, from Orange Cove as the victim of a recent homicide.

On Sunday, March 16th, at 1:10 pm, dispatchers received reports of gunshots fired outside the Orchard Village Apartment Complex at 1555 South Avenue in Orange Cove. Orange Cove Police arrived within five minutes and were directed to an apartment unit where they found Veloz with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers provided medical aid to Veloz, who was conscious at that time. He was transported by ambulance to Reedley Hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

Police efforts led to identifying a shooting suspect described as a 16-year-old boy. The Sheriff’s helicopter, EAGLE One, assisted patrol deputies in locating and apprehending him near the apartments. It has been confirmed that the suspect and victim knew each other.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Homicide Unit is investigating the case further to determine a motive for the shooting. Despite an arrest being made, authorities urge anyone with additional information about this case to contact Detective Gloria at (559) 600-8217 or Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-7867 or visit www.valleycrimestoppers.org.
