Jim Costa, currently representing California’s 21st district in the U.S. Congress, shared a series of tweets reflecting on cultural and community matters. Costa, who has been in Congress since 2005 after serving in the California State Assembly and State Senate, highlighted a range of topics from celebrating cultural communities to comments on public broadcasting funding.
On May 2, 2025, Costa tweeted about the recognition of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. “This month, we celebrate the rich heritage, resilience, and lasting contributions of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. Their stories and experiences continue to shape a more just and vibrant future.”
In another post dated May 4, 2025, Costa marked a significant milestone for the Hmong community, stating, “Honored to celebrate 50 years of Hmong America Day—recognizing the Hmong community’s contributions and honoring Lao Veterans who served alongside U.S. forces. #HmongAmericaDay.”
Furthermore, on May 5, 2025, Costa articulated his position on public media funding in a tweet, “Blocking funding for NPR and PBS isn’t fiscal responsibility—it’s an attack on the public’s right to stay informed.”
Jim Costa, born in Fresno, California in 1952, graduated from California State University, Fresno with a BA in 1974. His longstanding service includes time in the California State Assembly and Senate, prior to his tenure in Congress.
