Jim Costa, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 21st district, has been active on social media discussing various significant events and issues. Costa, who has served in Congress since 2005 after replacing Cal Dooley, often shares insights and updates related to his work and broader national matters.
On May 7, 2025, Costa highlighted a solemn moment in the U.S. House of Representatives as they held a moment of silence for Lance Cpl. Marcelino Gamino. He referred to Gamino as “a proud son of Fresno” and emphasized that “His memory will not be forgotten.”
The following day, May 8, 2025, Costa commented on the election of Pope Robert Prevost as Pope Leo XIV. He noted it as a historic event with Prevost being the first American to lead the Catholic Church. Costa remarked that “His papacy ushers in a new chapter for both the Church and the world,” highlighting the need for compassion, unity, and moral leadership.

Costa was born in Fresno in 1952 and continues to reside there at age 71. A graduate of California State University, Fresno with a BA earned in 1974, he also served in both the California State Assembly from 1978 to 1994 and the California Senate from 1994 to 2002 before his tenure in Congress.
