Rep. Jim Costa, who represents California’s 21st district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of updates on his official Twitter account between May 28 and May 29, 2026. The tweets addressed local achievements, federal funding for water infrastructure, and ongoing national debates over immigration reform.
On May 28, Costa congratulated a local athlete with the message: “Congratulations to Fresno’s very own Max Arfsten on making the 2026 U.S. Men’s National Team World Cup roster. From San Joaquin Memorial to representing our country on the world stage, the Central Valley is proud of you. Wishing you and Team USA the best of luck this summer!”
Later that day, he commented on immigration policy discussions: “We need to fix our broken immigration system. There is an opportunity at the end of this year for both parties to come together around a bipartisan package that addresses the failures in our immigration system — if the President is willing to engage.”
On May 29, Costa announced new federal support for regional infrastructure: “FUNDING ALERT: I secured more than $131 million in federal funding to strengthen water infrastructure across the Central Valley. This funding will help improve water reliability, boost drought resilience, and modernize the critical systems our farms, families, and communities.”
Costa has represented California’s 21st District since replacing Cal Dooley in 2005 and previously served in both chambers of California’s state legislature from 1978 through 2002. Born in Fresno in 1952 and a graduate of California State University, Fresno (1974), Costa continues to reside in his hometown while focusing legislative efforts on issues affecting his constituents such as agriculture, water management, and immigration reform.
