Rep. Jim Costa, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 21st district since 2005, recently used his Twitter account to highlight local commemorations and legislative concerns affecting Central Valley residents.
On May 26, Costa posted about Memorial Day observances in Fresno, stating: “Yesterday, we honored the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our freedoms and liberties. At Fresno Memorial Gardens — home to the largest display of freestanding American flags in the West — we came together to remember our fallen heroes, recognize https://t.co/kw1up2xQkw”.
The following day, on May 27, Costa addressed immigration issues impacting California’s Central Valley. He wrote: “California is home to more than 27% of all active DACA recipients nationwide, many of whom live and work in the Central Valley. Delays in DACA renewal processing put families, jobs, and entire communities at risk. Alongside @RepAdamGrayCA, @RepDavidValadao, and https://t.co/Aiefph3BeC”.
On May 28, Costa referenced recent media appearances and federal funding for regional infrastructure projects: “This morning, I joined KMPH-FOX26 to discuss the letter I sent to DHS and USCIS sounding the alarm on DACA renewal delays, as well as the $131 million in federal funding we secured for Valley water infrastructure projects. With California home to 27% of all active DACA”.
Costa has served in Congress since replacing Cal Dooley in 2005 after a long career in state politics that included terms in both the California State Assembly (1978–1994) and Senate (1994–2002). Born in Fresno in 1952 and currently residing there at age 71, he is an alumnus of California State University, Fresno.
