On March 4, 2025, Rep. Costa expressed concern over the future of Medicaid in the San Joaquin Valley. In his post, he emphasized that “Medicaid is a lifeline, saving lives every day”. He called on President Trump to outline his plans for Medicaid and those who rely on it, asserting that “Medicare and Medicaid save lives.”
Later that day, Costa tweeted about the importance of preserving Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid benefits. He stated that “Americans have paid into Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid their entire lives—they’ve earned these benefits, not cuts”. He urged Speaker Johnson to support hardworking families by rejecting budget proposals that would cut these programs.
In another tweet posted on March 4th as well, Rep. Costa highlighted the economic relationship between the United States and Portugal. He noted that “The United States is Portugal’s second-largest trading partner outside the European Union” and stressed the importance of strong bilateral ties for economic growth in regions like the San Joaquin Valley. Costa also mentioned having had a productive meeting with Ambassador Francisco Duarte Lopes.
