Rep. Jim Costa, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 21st district since 2005, has recently shared his views on various matters through social media posts. These tweets cover topics ranging from political budget decisions to commemorations of significant figures and national holidays.
On July 3, 2025, Rep. Costa expressed his concerns about the Republican party’s approach to budgeting in a tweet. He stated, “Republicans had six months to work with Democrats on a bipartisan, responsible budget. Instead, they’ve chosen to put billionaires and big corporations first at the expense of the people of the San Joaquin Valley.” He emphasized the importance of healthcare for his constituents.
Later that day, Costa paid tribute to John Harris in another post, acknowledging him as “a respected leader in California and American agriculture.” He noted Harris’s impact on the San Joaquin Valley and highlighted his educational contributions as a UC Davis graduate who valued education deeply.
On July 4th, Costa extended holiday wishes in a tweet celebrating Independence Day. He remarked on this day as “a time to reflect on the freedoms we cherish and the values that make our nation strong,” wishing safety and meaningful celebrations for all residents of the Valley.
Jim Costa was born in Fresno, California in 1952 and graduated from California State University, Fresno with a BA in 1974. Before serving in Congress since 2005 after succeeding Cal Dooley, he was part of both the California State Assembly (1978-1994) and Senate (1994-2002).
