Jim Costa, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 21st district since 2005, recently shared his views on several pressing issues via social media. Born in Fresno, California in 1952, Costa has been an active participant in politics for decades, having previously served in the California State Assembly and Senate.
On July 2, 2025, Costa criticized former President Donald Trump’s legislative efforts, referring to it as “One Big, Ugly Bill”. He emphasized that this bill represents “the biggest Medicaid cut in U.S. history.”
Later that day, Costa reflected on the significance of the Civil Rights Act signed on July 2, 1964. He noted its role in outlawing discrimination based on various factors but pointed out ongoing issues under the Trump administration. He stated that “Trump’s administration targets immigrants and deports lawful Americans.” He stressed that “the push for equality must persist.”
In another post on the same day, Costa highlighted concerns about his district’s reliance on SNAP benefits. He warned that under the proposed legislation referred to as the Big-Ugly bill, “over 35,000 people would lose food assistance,” leading to broader economic impacts such as reduced sales for local grocers and job losses across the Valley.
As a longstanding member of Congress and a resident of Fresno with deep ties to his community through education and public service roles since 1978, Jim Costa continues to advocate for policies he believes will benefit his constituents.
