Rep. Jim Costa, who has represented California’s 21st district in the U.S. Congress since 2005, recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing national and local issues.
On April 7, 2026, Costa criticized the President’s recent actions, stating: “On Easter, the President was posting threats that could amount to war crimes. Now he is threatening to wipe out an entire civilization. Congress must act now to assert its authority and de-escalate this dangerous situation.”
Two days later, on April 9, 2026, Costa addressed economic concerns amid escalating international conflict: “The President campaigned on lowering inflation and bringing down the cost of living. But today, we’re in the middle of a war with Iran—driving gas prices higher for hardworking Valley families and those across our country. That’s not relief, that’s a broken promise.”
Also on April 9, Costa highlighted his engagement with community organizations by visiting a local service provider: “Today, I had the privilege of visiting the California Autism Center and presenting them with a certificate in recognition of the incredible work they do for families across the Valley. With six locations serving our community, their team is changing lives—helping children with”
Costa has served in Congress since replacing Cal Dooley in 2005 and previously held seats in both the California State Assembly (1978–1994) and Senate (1994–2002). Born in Fresno in 1952 and currently residing there at age 71, Costa graduated from California State University, Fresno with a BA in 1974.
