Rep. Jim Costa, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 21st district, has recently voiced concerns over several issues affecting his constituents and broader national interests through a series of tweets.
On May 15, 2025, Rep. Costa criticized the House Republicans’ budget proposal, stating that it “slashes SNAP benefits and food safety protections,” which he believes will negatively impact families in the San Joaquin Valley and across the nation. He emphasized the implications for his district, CA-21. “Last night, House Republicans pushed for a budget that slashes SNAP benefits and food safety protections, hurting families in the San Joaquin Valley and across the nation.”
Later that day, Costa addressed potential cuts to USDA field offices in California. He described these offices as essential for farmers in his state and warned that such reductions would “increase grant approval processes, limit funding accessibility, and slash critical resource help farmers need to survive.” He also mentioned sending a letter to Secretary Brooke Rollins to advocate for reinstating these services. “USDA is a lifeline for California farmers.”
On May 16, 2025, Rep. Costa paid tribute to Sgt. George Imirian from Fresno who was ambushed but survived an attack while on duty. Imirian was honored in Washington D.C., receiving recognition as NAPO’s Top Cop and Citizen’s Choice Award recipient for his courage and dedication to service. “Sgt. George Imirian was ambushed and shot in the line of duty.”
Jim Costa has been serving California’s 21st District since replacing Cal Dooley in 2005 after previously serving in both the California State Assembly and Senate.
