Jim Costa, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 21st district since 2005, has been vocal on several issues via social media. His recent tweets address significant legislative and social matters, reflecting his ongoing commitment to public service.
On June 16, 2025, Costa emphasized the importance of bipartisan cooperation in Congress to provide stability for Dreamers through the American Dream and Promise Act. He stated, “For 13 years, #DACA has provided hope and opportunity to Dreamers across the country. It’s long overdue that Congress work together in a bipartisan way to provide lasting stability. We must pass the American Dream and Promise Act to help make that a reality.”
In another tweet dated June 17, 2025, Costa shared his meeting with Cruz Hernandez, who is living with Neurofibromatosis Type 1. Highlighting the reliance of families like Hernandez’s on Medicaid for essential care, he warned about potential impacts from proposed changes under President Trump’s administration: “I had the honor to meet Cruz Hernandez, a remarkable young man living with Neurofibromatosis Type 1. Families like his rely on Medicaid for critical care — and under President Trump’s proposed ‘one big, beautiful’ bill, millions across the country could see those benefits”.
Further addressing political dynamics on June 18, 2025, Costa reported an incident involving Senator Alex Padilla at a Department of Homeland Security press conference led by Secretary Kristi Noem. He expressed solidarity with Padilla by joining Congressional Hispanic Caucus colleagues in condemning what they viewed as mistreatment: “Senator Alex Padilla was forcibly removed from a DHS press conference hosted by Secretary Kristi Noem despite identifying himself as a U.S. Senator.”
Costa has been serving in Congress since succeeding Cal Dooley in 2005 and has an extensive background in California politics dating back to his time in the State Assembly starting in 1978.
