Jim Costa, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 21st district, shared several updates through his social media platform regarding recent developments and concerns affecting his constituents. Costa has been serving in this role since 2005 after succeeding Cal Dooley. He has also served in the California State Assembly and Senate before his tenure in Congress.
On July 5, 2025, Costa marked a significant milestone by celebrating the first anniversary of the Visalia VA-Community based outpatient clinic. He stated that “Yesterday, we celebrated the 1st Anniversary of the Visalia VA- Community based outpatient clinic! This clinic provides primary care and specialty health services to veterans throughout the Valley. Our veterans are receiving the care and resources they deserve!” The facility is noted for offering essential healthcare services to veterans in the region.
In a post dated July 7, 2025, Costa expressed concern over potential Medicaid cuts and their impact on healthcare access in his district. He warned that “Medicaid cuts will hurt folks significantly in across the Valley. That means longer ER waits, fewer staff, and higher insurance bills.” He emphasized that residents deserve improved care rather than reductions when needed most.
Later on July 7, Costa addressed another pressing issue: flooding in Kerr County, Texas. In his message of solidarity with those affected by the natural disaster, he conveyed that “The devastation caused by the floods in Kerr County, Texas, is heartbreaking.” He offered thoughts to victims and their families while advocating for community support during challenging times.
Costa’s background includes being born in Fresno, California in 1952 and graduating from California State University, Fresno with a BA in 1974. Now at age 71, he continues to reside in Fresno while serving his constituents.
