Rep. Jim Costa, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 21st district, has been vocal on various issues through his recent tweets. Having replaced Cal Dooley in 2005, Costa continues to engage with pressing national and international matters.
On May 22, 2025, Rep. Costa expressed concern about the potential impact of losing access to free school meals for students across America. He tweeted that “18.3 million students across America could lose access to free school breakfast and lunch.” Emphasizing the importance of these meals as “essential fuel for learning,” he warned that without them, students may fall behind.
In another tweet on the same day, Costa criticized a situation involving President Trump and foreign relations with Qatar. He stated, “This is absurd! I’ve cosponsored legislation to prohibit President Trump from accepting a luxury aircraft from the Qatari government.” He further asserted that “our democracy is not for sale.”
Later that day, Costa addressed issues related to international law enforcement during a hearing with Secretary Rubio. He remarked on holding Secretary Rubio accountable by stating “the U.S. must enforce our laws and stop giving Azerbaijan a pass.”
Jim Costa was born in Fresno, California in 1952 and currently resides there at age 71. His educational background includes graduating from California State University, Fresno in 1974 with a BA.
