Rep. Jim Costa, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 21st district since 2005, recently highlighted local housing, healthcare, and agricultural issues in a series of posts on his official Twitter account.
On May 29, 2026, Costa addressed the ongoing housing challenges in California’s Central Valley: “Every family deserves a safe, stable place to call home, yet too many in the Central Valley continue to struggle with the rising cost of housing. That’s why it was great to tour Sierra Crossing, which provides 95 units of permanent affordable housing for young adults and”.
The following day, May 30, he expressed concerns about federal funding decisions affecting vulnerable populations, “When seniors and people with disabilities lose access to care, the consequences are real. Alongside my California delegation colleagues, I am opposing the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) decision to defer $1.1 billion in federal funding for In-Home Supportive”.
On May 31, Costa discussed his visit to a local agricultural business: “This week, I visited Fowler Packing to learn more about the challenges and opportunities facing a company that specializes in growing, packing, and distributing premium citrus and table grapes. As trade disputes and tariffs create uncertainty for growers, we must continue”.
Costa has represented California’s 21st District since replacing Cal Dooley in 2005. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in both the California State Assembly from 1978 to 1994 and the California Senate from 1994 to 2002. Born in Fresno in 1952 and currently residing there at age 71, Costa graduated from California State University, Fresno with a BA in 1974.
