Rep. Jim Costa, who represents California’s 21st district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing education, remembrance of historical events, and international human rights concerns.
On April 18, 2026, Costa highlighted his engagement with local educators: “It was a pleasure meeting with the dedicated staff from West Park Elementary School District. We had a productive discussion on key issues impacting students and families, including workforce development, federal education priorities, and the importance of online safety and https://t.co/l7L0wT6kDe” (April 18, 2026).
Later that day, he commemorated victims of the Armenian Genocide: “This week, I joined the Armenian National Committee of America to honor the memory of the 1.5 million Armenians who were killed in the Armenian Genocide and to reaffirm our nation’s commitment to truth, recognition, and education. On April 19th, Costa addressed concerns regarding political prisoners in Azerbaijan: “April 18th marks the 1,000th day of the Azerbaijani government’s illegal detention of Dr. Gubad Ibadoghlu, under politically motivated charges. Azerbaijan should release Dr. Ibadoghlu and its other political prisoners, as well as all Armenian prisoners of war as a precondition” (April 19, 2026).
Costa has served in Congress since replacing Cal Dooley in 2005 and previously held positions in both chambers of California’s state legislature. He was born in Fresno in 1952 and continues to reside there after graduating from California State University, Fresno with a bachelor’s degree.
