Rep. Jim Costa, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 21st district since 2005, shared several concerns on social media on May 22, 2025. His posts addressed recent acts of violence and fiscal policies impacting the national deficit.

In his first post at 04:35 UTC, Rep. Costa highlighted an incident in Washington, DC where diplomats were attacked near the Capital Jewish Museum. He described it as a “horrifying act of antisemitic violence” and called for a thorough investigation and justice. His message included solidarity with the Israeli embassy during this difficult time. The original post can be viewed here.

Later that day at 13:07 UTC, Costa expressed his views on fiscal policy in a thread beginning with this tweet. He criticized Republicans’ approach to fiscal responsibility, highlighting former President Trump’s budget proposal which he claimed would increase the deficit by $4 trillion by 2034.

Following this critique, Costa urged bipartisan cooperation in another tweet posted at almost the same time (viewable here). He emphasized the need for common sense over political gamesmanship and called upon the Senate to address issues within current legislation.

Jim Costa has been serving in Congress since replacing Cal Dooley in 2005. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he was part of both California’s State Assembly and Senate from 1978 to 2002.
