Jim Costa, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 21st district since 2005, has voiced his concerns through a series of tweets. He highlighted issues concerning low-income energy assistance and healthcare policies affected by Republican legislative actions.
On July 3, 2025, Jim Costa expressed concern about attempts to block funding for the Low-income Home Energy Assistance Program. “The Low-income Home Energy Assistance Program helps low-income households afford their heating and cooling bills,” he stated. Emphasizing the importance of this program in areas like the Valley that face extreme heat waves, he criticized Republicans for attempting to obstruct this critical support.
Later that day, Costa shared efforts made by House Democrats to ensure representation of diverse voices across America. In a tweet posted at 16:33 UTC, he noted that “From rural towns to big cities, House Democrats have shared the stories of over 150 Americans over the last 7 hours.” The aim was to highlight their commitment to making sure every voice is heard.
In another post on July 3 at 18:25 UTC, Costa criticized a Republican bill impacting healthcare coverage for millions of Americans. According to his tweet, “Republicans are turning their backs on Americans.” He listed several consequences of what he described as “One Big, Ugly bill,” including slashing $1.1 trillion from Medicaid and ACA and stripping healthcare from 17 million people. He also highlighted its impact on over 240K Valley residents and more than 51,000 seniors and children in his district.
Jim Costa’s career includes previous service in both the California State Assembly and Senate before joining Congress in place of Cal Dooley. Born in Fresno in 1952 and educated at California State University, Fresno, he continues to reside there.
