The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office announced on May 5 that a deputy seized approximately 40 pounds of methamphetamine and thousands of dollars in cash during a traffic stop on Interstate 5, east of Coalinga.
The discovery came after K-9 Willow alerted the deputy to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. The driver was arrested at the scene and booked into jail on charges related to narcotics possession and intent to sell. The name of the suspect has not been released, as the investigation is ongoing.
Authorities say that tips from community members are important for combating illegal drug activity. The Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with information about illegal drugs to report it anonymously by calling their Narcotics Hotline or contacting Crime Stoppers. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward.
This incident highlights continued law enforcement efforts to intercept drug trafficking along major transportation routes in Fresno County.
As this case develops, officials say further details will be released when available.
