Text messages claiming to be from the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) have been circulating, alleging recipients have unpaid tolls. These messages are scams.

Recently, a new fraudulent message has emerged, stating that individuals have unpaid traffic violations. The DMV emphasizes that “THESE MESSAGES ARE NOT REAL!” There has been an increase in people visiting traffic court in Fresno to resolve these non-existent issues. This tactic is designed to scare individuals into giving away money and wasting their time.

The DMV clarifies that it will never send text messages requesting personal or financial information. Recipients of such texts are advised not to click on any links or respond but instead ignore and delete them.
