On March 21, at 2:45 a.m., deputies responded to reports of gunshots on E. Redondo Ave. in Del Rey. Shots were reportedly fired at an apartment complex from a gray Chevrolet Suburban, but no injuries were reported. Deputies pursued the vehicle after it failed to stop, reaching speeds of up to 90 mph before crashing into an orchard near S. McCall and E. Parlier Avenues. Lopez attempted to flee but was apprehended.
A search of the vehicle yielded two unregistered short-barrel AR-15 style pistols and several hundred rounds of ammunition. Lopez, a convicted felon, is not permitted to possess firearms, and all recovered weapons were unregistered and privately manufactured, known as “Ghost Guns.”
